Karim Zito, the coach of the Black Satellites, has explained why Bechem United right defender Clinton Doudou was dropped.

Ghana’s 18-man roster for the ongoing WAFU U-20 Championship in Niger did not include the youngster.

Many football fans were surprised by his absence, given his fantastic performance with Bechem United this season.

Karim Zito claims that the right-back failed to impress him during his time with the national squad, which included Legon Cities Adamu.

“Your team’s performance will bring you to the national team and when you come to the national team, I don’t judge you by your club performance but by what you show me in the national team to select you.

“When they came I was even wondering what is happening with Clinton. For Adamu of late, he doesn’t play. All the time Adamu is on the bench. All the friendly matches we played they were on the bench so why should I bring them. They didn’t perform well does why I decided to drop them”, he said after the loss to Nigeria.

Ghana, the defending champion, has had a slow start in the WAFU Zone B U20 Championship, which is now taking place in Niger.

On Sunday afternoon, the Black Satellites were defeated 2-0 by Nigeria in their first Group B match at the Stade Général Seyni Kountche in Niamey.

The Flying Eagles won all three points thanks to goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Ahmed Abudullahi in either half.
