Senegal manager Aliou Cisse has recommended Sadio Mane to leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Southampton for about £35 million in 2016, has reportedly informed the club’s hierarchy that he wants to leave this summer following the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Paris.

Bayern has had two initial proposals for Mane rejected, the most recent of which was worth roughly £30 million. Liverpool are thought to be demanding about £40 million for a player whose contract runs out in June 2023.

Cisse has now instructed Mane to go to the club where he ‘feels best,’ which he claims is the Bavarian club.

‘I tell my boys to try to work out the contract issues so that when their respective championships resume, they will have already found a base,’ former Birmingham City midfielder Cisse said.

‘I heard about Sadio at Bayern. For me it is a club that is of its standing. Bayern is intense, pressing football with a German coach. Sadio played in Salzburg in Austria which is a border country, and that means he is not going into unknown territory. For me, the club where he will feel the best is Bayern.’

Bayern Munich could lose both star striker Robert Lewandowski and Germany international forward Serge Gnabry this summer, with the former’s contract expiring in less than a week and the latter’s in 2023.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has already lost striker Divock Origi to AC Milan on a free transfer this summer, and their frontline is set to be further weakened by the expected departure of Japanese attacker Takumi Minamino.

The Reds are expected to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez for a sum that could start at £64 million and climb to £85 million in a deal that could be finalized on Monday.
