Barcelona will continue their domestic campaign at home against an out-of-form Elche team on Saturday afternoon in an attempt to make it five straight La Liga victory.

While Elche is down in 19th place with just one point from their first five games of the season, the Catalan team is currently second in the table, two points behind Real Madrid.

Barcelona has been in fantastic form in La Liga since being held to a scoreless draw by Rayo Vallecano on the first weekend of the new season, winning four straight games while scoring 15 goals and giving up just one.

In addition to defeating Real Sociedad 4-1 on August 21 and Real Valladolid 4-0 on August 22, they have also defeated Sevilla 3-0 and Cadiz 4-0 in their most recent two league away matches.

Barcelona is now in second place in the table, two points behind Real Madrid, who have started the 2022–23 La Liga season with a perfect record, after collecting 13 points from their first five games.

Though it was a very level game in Munich, Xavi’s team will enter this encounter off the heels of a loss after losing 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Elche has only scored twice and given up 13 goals, which are concerning numbers before a trip to Camp Nou, especially with Barcelona looking to bounce back from their disappointing European campaign.

After losing 3-0 to Real Betis to begin the 2022–23 season, Francisco’s team earned its first point of the year by defeating Almeria at home one week later.

However, the Green-striped team has already dropped its previous three games against Real Sociedad, Villarreal, and Athletic Bilbao, giving up eight goals in each of those losses. In addition, they have allowed 13 goals in their last four trips to Barcelona in Spain’s top division.

Barcelona will be anxious to end the La Liga season on a high note, and they have won their last six meetings with Elche, including a 3-2 victory at Camp Nou in the previous campaign.

Elche is now competing in their third consecutive La Liga season. Last year, they finished 13th in the top division, which was their joint-highest position since 1976–1977.

Even though Los Franjiverdes were only four points above the relegation zone last season, they have had a terrible start to this one, earning just one point in their first five games and currently occupying the 19th spot.
