Christopher Nkunku, a standout for Leipzig, is said to have signed a pre-contractual agreement with Chelsea after undergoing a covert medical last month.

Despite a busy summer spending £272 million on players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, and Wesley Fofana, the French midfielder has already emerged as Chelsea’s top transfer target.

The Blues have a deal in place for Nkunku to join Stamford Bridge, according to the Athletic, and owner Todd Boehly is willing to pay his entire £53 million release clause immediately to ensure they get the jump on their competitors. Nkunku is not anticipated to arrive until next summer.

The report claims that the Blues have now reached an agreement with the player and are moving fast to expedite the deal, which they expect to have in place for the start of the 2019–2020 season.

The 24-year-old had a remarkable season last year, making 52 appearances across all competitions, scoring 35 goals and assisting 20 more on his way to winning the Bundesliga player of the year honors.

His performance earned him a new two-year agreement that keeps him at Leipzig until 2026. However, it also includes a £52.8 million release clause, which Chelsea have now triggered.

Chelsea’s extravagant spending under Boehly since he sealed a £4.2 billion takeover of the Blues this year would continue if their deal for Nkunku is confirmed.

To truly declare his intentions, he brought in Fofana, Aubameyang, Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, and.

He also made changes in the boardroom, removing longtime chairman Bruce Buck and director Marina Granovskaia. The American CEO is now looking for a new sporting director who can help him close the biggest agreements.
