When Chelsea resumes their Premier League campaign at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, they will be hoping to make it three straight victories in all competitions.

Last weekend, the Blues defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 in league play, while Bruno Lage lost his job as head coach of Wolves after his team lost 2-0 against West Ham United.

Although Milan was soundly defeated on the night, Graham Potter’s team did manage to move into second with a 3-0 victory over the Italian champions. It was perhaps the team’s best performance of the season.

Conor Gallagher’s last-second goal against Palace helped Chelsea win the Premier League last weekend as well. As a result, the London team is now in fifth place in the standings with 13 points after their first seven games.

However, Chelsea hasn’t actually defeated Wolves in the Premier League since July 2020, with all three of their most recent meetings ending in draws, including the comparable 2-2 draw.

Following Wolves’ 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday, which left the team in 18th place in the standings with six points, the club decided to fire Lage as head coach.

With only three goals scored in eight Premier League games this season and just one victory, the struggling team’s chairman Jeff Shi stated he had “no choice but to act.”

Although there won’t be any movement before this weekend’s match at Stamford Bridge, Wolves are thought to be interested in hiring Julen Lopetegui, who has now departed his managerial position at Sevilla.

Because of this, veteran managers James Collins and Steve Davis will choose and actually manage the team for this game, with the former Championship team hoping to launch their campaign at Stamford Bridge.
