When Arsenal plays Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, the league’s top team will be aiming to make it eight victories in their last nine games.

The opposition, on the other hand, is looking to get back to winning after drawing their last two league games.

In the North London Derby last weekend, Mikel Arteta’s team defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 to maintain their lead in the Premier League.

It goes without saying that Liverpool is the only team that has recently been able to match Pep Guardiola’s Man City, making Sunday’s match incredibly interesting and maybe instructive in terms of predicting how the rest of the season will play out.

The Gunners defeated Bodo/Glimt 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night to extend their unbeaten streak in all competitions at home to eight games. What once appeared like wild fantasies may now be seen as more attainable goals if they can make it nine in a row on Sunday and maintain their lead over Man City at the top of the league.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team is off to their worst start to a season in a number of years as they enter Sunday’s matchup 11 points behind their opponents (albeit with one game in hand).

The Merseysiders appeared to have turned a corner after picking up just two points from their first three games with back-to-back home victories over Bournemouth and Newcastle United, but Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion have since held them at bay.

In the 2-0 victory over Rangers on Tuesday, Klopp shifted to a more adventurous style, playing four attackers in front of club captain Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara in midfield.

It remains to be seen if the German believes his team is capable of traveling to the Emirates Stadium to face an in-form Arsenal team with such a daring system, especially since it is unquestionably a game they cannot afford to lose if they are to have any realistic chance of winning the Premier League this year.
