Paulo Dybala could miss Argentina’s appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to a “very nasty” injury he sustained during Roma’s Serie A match against Lecce over the weekend.

The former Juventus player started for Roma on Sunday, October 9, as they defeated Lecce 2-1 at Stadio Olimpico.

Although the forward was credited with a goal, there was no happy ending for him because it appeared he had injured himself.

In the 48th minute, Dybala scored Roma’s second goal and pulled up holding his left leg.

Moments after Dybala walked up to tuck in the winner, everything appeared to be going perfectly. However, the Roma star soon began to show signs of agony.

His teammates rushed to applaud him, as shown on film, but the Argentine’s mood quickly altered as he groaned and gripped his thigh. He was changed right away, and it was clear that he was limping off as he left the field.

When asked about the scenario involving Dybala, Jose Mourinho characterized the forward’s injury as “very bad.”

“The injury looks very bad. I’d say bad, but honestly after speaking with Paulo… I think very bad,” he said via The Sun.

Argentina, one of the favorites to win the 2022 World Cup, would suffer a severe setback if Dybala was to miss the Mundial.

The competition’s Group C places La Albicelestes in a group with Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico.
