In a thrilling Stamford Bridge clash on Saturday night, fifth will try to pass fourth as Chelsea and Manchester United restart their Premier League rivalry.

Midweek, Brentford held the Blues to a 0-0 draw while Erik ten Hag’s team easily defeated Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-0 victory.

While forthcoming opponents Man United did earn all three points in their midweek match, Chelsea only needed one to maintain their position in the fourth and final Champions League slot, three points behind Tottenham Hotspur with a match remaining.

Chelsea would be eliminated from the Champions League spots if they lost this match, but Potter’s team welcomes Man United to Stamford Bridge having preserved a clean sheet in each of their past five Premier League contests and only allowing two goals overall since the 47-year-old took over.

The hosts have also won their previous three Premier League games at home in West London and have yet to suffer a loss there this season, but under Ten Hag, Man United has shown a propensity for performances against Big Six teams from the city.

Many hailed Man United’s 2-0 victory over Spurs midweek as their strongest showing under Ten Hag; his team pressed hard for the entire 90 minutes. If the fifth-place Red Devils win two straight matches this weekend, they will move into the top four.

Man United has already won four of their past five games across all competitions, and they have impressively won nine of their last 12 games following that 4-0 loss to Brentford. The visitors have three straight shutouts in their last three games, however, Chelsea’s streak of clean sheets is more notable.
