The Champions League knockout stages are still up for grabs when Marseille and Tottenham Hotspur square off at the Orange Velodrome on Tuesday with everything still up for grabs on the tantalizing last matchday in Group D.

The Lilywhites lead the section by one point, while Les Olympiens are currently in fourth place but have a chance to upset the apple cart and go to the round of 16.

Marseille, who have six points and are now in fourth position in the group, will advance to the last-16 draw if they defeat Tottenham on Tuesday. If they fail to do so, however, their chances of earning a spot in the Champions League’s knockout round will be finished.

Following his team’s squandering of a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Strasbourg at the weekend thanks to Kevin Gameiro’s injury-time goal, Tudor was furious. Les Olympiens now enter Tuesday’s crucial meeting having lost three and drawn one of their previous four games.

Les Olympiens must now attempt to accomplish a feat that they have not done since 2010 – defeat an English team in the Champions League. They have only won one of their previous five home games and have given up in each of their past six in front of their own supporters.

The London-based team will be without Antonio Conte, who was suspended for his response after Harry Kane’s last-second goal against Sporting was ruled off by VAR.

While Tottenham’s thrilling win over Bournemouth over the weekend should encourage them to keep going despite their recent setbacks, Tottenham has never defeated a French team away from home in a European competition, while Marseille’s record against English clubs leaves much to be desired.

Richarlison scored twice for Tottenham in their 2-0 victory over Marseille in North London back in September, but with the Brazilian out for this game, other members of Conte’s squad have a chance to emerge as the new faces of Europe.
