Senegal international Edouard Mendy resumed first team training with Chelsea last week after assisting the AFCON champions to reach the knockout stages in Qatar.

Mendy lost his position as Chelsea’s indisputable No. 1 last month, but the foot injury Kepa Arrizabalaga suffered in Chelsea’s loss at Brighton is likely to give the 30-year-old an opportunity to regain it.

With only two and a half years remaining on his current contract and Petr Cech, the person who advised the 30-year-acquisition is no longer at Chelsea, therefore, leaving the Senegalese’s long-term future in doubt.

Graham Potter, the manager, and Christopher Vivell, the new technical director, are likely looking for a new goalkeeper who will play more in line with the philosophy of the former Brighton manager.

Stamford Bridge has been linked to offers for Diogo Costa of Porto and Roger Sanchez of Brighton, but the west London club is still working to sign Mendy to a longer contract and preserve his value.

However, the former Rennes goalkeeper is rumored to have been dissatisfied with Chelsea’s most recent offer, which represented only a slight increase over his existing wage of £100,000 per week.
