Mikel Arteta confirms Thomas Partey picked up injury during Man City defeat

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has confirmed he substituted Thomas Partey during the Manchester City due to injury.

The Ghanaian was hooked off at half time and replaced by Beglian midfielder Sambi Lokonga.

After the game, Arteta confirmed Partey was unable to continue after the half-time break after picking up a rib injury.

“We didn’t want to take any risk. He could not continue.”

The Spanish coach also added he is unclear about the initial diagnosis or how long he will be out.

Partey is set to undergo an MRI scan on Saturday to determine the extent of damage on his ribs after complaining of discomfort.

Arsenal was knocked out of the FA fourth round after losing 1-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad on Friday.
