According to Graham Potter, Chelsea players under Thomas Tuchel, last summer had “the worst pre-season” of their careers.
Last July, the Blues began a terrible tour of America, losing on penalties to MLS team Charlotte before being destroyed 4-0 by Arsenal.
After the Gunners’ defeat, Tuchel vented about the players’ dedication and, despite winning the Champions League in 2021, lost his job a few months later.
Potter spoke to the press before Chelsea’s Sunday matchup with Tottenham and brought up the disastrous pre-season tour.
‘Speaking to a few of the experienced guys, they said it was the worst pre-season they’ve had. Organisationally, the tour didn’t work as well as they’d like. I wasn’t there so I can’t say.’
Chelsea was sixth in the league when Tuchel left the team in September despite a terrible preseason.
Following a strong start under Potter, the Blues have had a terrible stretch of games, winning just two of their last 14.
Although Antonio Conte’s team dug deep to beat West Ham last weekend, their results have been quite inconsistent. Spurs could tighten their grip on the fourth spot with a win over Chelsea.
The Chelsea manager anticipated their need for “a solid performance” on Sunday.
He added: ‘We’ve spoken about it with individuals and as a group as to how to attack against Tottenham. They are a team that don’t give much away, defend deep, we’ll have to think about that.’
