Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has pulled out of Norway’s squad for the upcoming international break after suffering a groin injury.
The in-form striker was in pole position to play a part in Norway’s opening game for the Euro 2024 qualifiers but has withdrawn from the squad.
The 22-year-old suffered a groin problem in Man City’s 6-0 thumping of Burnley in the FA Cup, where Haaland scored a hat-trick.
The injury means the goal poacher will now miss Norway’s games against Spain and Georgia in Group A of the qualifiers.
“Erling took it hard when he realised that he could not fight for the team,” said Norway coach Stale Solbakken.
“Fortunately, there is still plenty of self-confidence, talent and cohesion in this group to win points in the next matches.”
Ola Sand, who is the team’s doctor also added: “After doing tests and examinations yesterday it became clear that he will not make it for the games against Spain and Georgia. It is better that he receives medical follow-up at his club.”
Since making his Norway debut in September 2019 at the age of 19, Haaland has netted 21 goals in 23 matches.
