Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director Fabio Paratici says it was the best decision for both the club and Antonio Conte to part ways.

Tottenham parted ways with Conte on Sunday, March 26, eight days after he called his players out for being “selfish” following a 3-3 draw at Southampton in the Premier League.

Ryan Mason has been designated as Cristian Stellini’s assistant after the latter has taken over as interim manager of the team following Conte’s sacking.

For Conte, who underwent gallbladder surgery and has lost a number of people close to him over the past few months, this season has been “difficult,” according to Paratici.

But he also believes it was right for the two parties to go separate ways while also insisting now is not the time to focus on the manager’s potential successor.

“The club supported him a lot and everyone was close to each other but then we arrived at this mutual agreement,” he said.

“I think the decision we made was the right decision for everyone.”

Paratici added: “Everyone has to be focused on the last part of the season.

“We don’t want to talk about other coaches or follow the speculation in the media. We are focusing on helping Cristian and Ryan.”

Tottenham are back in league action on Monday, April 3, when they face Everton away from home.
