According to multiple reports, David de Gea been omitted from Spain’s 55-man preliminary squad list for the World Cup in Qatar later this month.

Spanish manager Luis Enrique has submitted his preliminary list of players eligible to compete at the event, from which he will select his final 26-man team.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has been ignored in favor of three other Premier League goalkeepers, despite the large size of the squad.

Enrique chose five different goalkeepers for the 55-man list, but De Gea was not one of them.

Unai Simón of Athletic Bilbao, Robert Sanchez of Brighton, and David Raya of Brentford are the three goalkeepers anticipated to travel to Qatar.

In the meantime, David Soria of Getafe and Kepa Arrizabalaga of Chelsea have been selected as backups in case of any sickness or injuries before to the competition.

Given that the former has played half as many Premier League games this season as De Gea, his team participation may be a surprise.

Fullbacks Alejandro Balde, Jordi Alba, and Jose Gaya are the only other players who are known to have reached Spain’s list.
