Chelsea forward Kai Havertz says under-fire manager Graham Potter has got the backing of the players despite increasing reports of a possible sack.
Havertz was on the scoresheet as Chelsea overturned a 0-1 deficit against Borussia Dortmund to book a place in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League.
Goals from Raheem Sterling and the German made sure the Blues recorded a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge to eliminate the Bundesliga leaders easing pressure off Potter.
The triumph is a huge relief for Potter, whose position as head coach was in jeopardy following a poor run of only two victories in 12 games and one goal scored in seven games.
Many have questioned whether the former Brighton manager is capable of handling such a demanding position at Chelsea, but Havertz claims the team was already confident in him behind the scenes.
“Yeah of course we know that the pressure is coming at him, but you can see that he is a big manager because in the media, I cannot even believe how many people have to talk [about] him,” he said after the win over Dortmund.
“We have hundreds of coaches in England, they think they know better than him. But we know in the changing room that he is a big personality, a big manager for us and he helps us all a lot – me included.
“So we are 100 per cent behind him, even though the people maybe don’t see it, but I think now today everyone saw that he’s a big manager.”
