Liverpool tipped to make top four despite recent struggles

With few games to go until the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season, Wayne Rooney has tipped Liverpool to finish in the top four.

The Reds are currently outside the Champions League spots for next season after taking 42 points from 27 games so far in the top flight.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are eight points behind the fourth position and have two games in hand as well but their inconsistent performances have been a major talking point for them this campaign, with many closing the chapter on them missing out on Champions League football next term.

However, former Manchester United legend, Rooney believes Liverpool still stands a chance of securing a place in the first four spots on the table.

‘The top four? A few weeks ago, there looked like a possibility Manchester United could challenge for the Premier League title.

“Erik ten Hag’s team fell short, but they could still end up with three trophies, and I’m sure will finish in the top four, then kick on after he buys a few players to strengthen in the summer,” he told The Times.

“So Manchester United will be there but I have a suspicion that Liverpool might sneak into it, thanks to the quality of their squad and their experience.

“They’re capable of going on a run. I see Newcastle, despite the great job Eddie has done, falling just a little short.”

With the title race looking increasingly to be one of Arsenal or Manchester City winning it, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, and Liverpool are all chasing the other two spots for Champions League action.
