Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney says Arsenal are clear favourites to win the Premier League title though a late comeback from Manchester City will not shock him.

Although it appears that either Arsenal or Manchester City will win the championship, there are still several teams vying for the final two places in the race to play in the Champions League next season.

Liverpool is still in the running despite being eight points behind the fifth place and eight points behind Newcastle, Tottenham, and Manchester United, who are all locked on 50 points. Brighton has three games in hand on Spurs and has 43 points.

Rooney predicts that Jurgen Klopp’s team will finish the season alongside his old team United in the final two spots of the top four.

The 37-year-old described Mikel Arteta’s team as the “favourites” to win the league title and said that they had handled the strain and expectations without faltering too much.

“The title race? Nothing would surprise me from Manchester City,’ he told The Times. “They could put together an incredible run and still win it but you have to say Arsenal are favourites.

“Everyone has been waiting for them to drop off but they’ve been top of the league for so many weeks and dealing with the pressure all season. I don’t see a collapse from them.”

Arsenal restored their eight-point lead at the top of the table following the 4-1 win over Leeds United over the weekend, with Gabriel Jesus hitting a brace.
