Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed Anthony Martial gives his side a better chance of winning games when he is fit.
The France international made his return from injury during United’s 0-2 loss to Newcastle United over the weekend, making a brief cameo.
The 27-year-old has not played enough football this season featuring in just 15 of United’s 47 matches so far this campaign and has been unable to complete 90 minutes in the league since January 2021.
Martial is expected to start for the Red Devils when they take on Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Ahead of the game, Ten Hag has told reporters that United have a better chance of winning games with the player available again.
“First place, frustrated for himself,” he said. “He’s the player who is most in the gym, he doesn’t want to be there, he wants to be on the pitch.
“But, of course, first for our team, it’s frustration, and second for the manager as well because when your best players are available you have a better chance of winning games.
“I only have to refer to Liverpool home, Man City home when he was available and he makes a difference. But same for Casemiro and (Christian) Eriksen, they are very important players. But when they are not available, you still have to win.”
After losing to Newcastle, United have dropped to fifth on the league table and could regain a place in the top four with a win over the Bees.

Both Teams to Score
Frank's team should pose multiple issues to the Man United backline since Brentford thrives when the going gets tough against Big Six clubs, especially with an extra day of rest. After the hardship of the weekend, Ten Hag should receive an immediate response from his team. However, with Brentford rarely going down in defeat and developing a reputation as stalemate specialists (taking one point from a league-high 13 games this season), we can anticipate an entertaining game at Old Trafford.
