After getting back to winning ways in their last two games, Manchester United seek a third when they host Sevilla in the first-leg encounter of the Europa League quarterfinal tie.

Sevilla is the third Spanish team United will be facing in this season’s Europa League after going past two already.

Erik ten Hag’s men defeated Barcelona and Real Betis en route to getting to this stage while Sevilla have overcome PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce in the knockout rounds.

While United are seeking a return to the Champions League, the club sees the Europa League as another platform for winning a major trophy this season having already won the Carabao Cup.

Ten Hag’s team has won back-to-back home league games against Brentford and Everton. They currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League standings, three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in fifth.

Man United, who won the 2017 Europa League, will have a demanding final week as they play six more games, including both legs of their quarterfinal match against Sevilla.

In the three previous meetings between these two teams, United have failed to win any, losing two and drawing the other.

The fact that Sevilla is now occupying the 13th spot in the La Liga standings speaks volumes about how miserable their domestic season has been but the journey in Europe has been quite the opposite.

Despite struggling to impress for much of the season, Sevilla has won the Europa League six times, which is a record for the competition; their most recent victory was in 2020 hence the Premier League side will need to be wary of the threat they possess.
