AC Milan head coach Stefano Piolo says he hopes to face Inter Milan in the semi-final of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League.
Milan book their place in the last four of the European competition following a 2-1 aggregate win over Napoli in the quarterfinal.
Milan won 1-0 at San Siro last week before settling for a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Tuesday, April 18, with goals from Olivier Giroud and Vincent Osimhem.
Milan will be watching Wednesday’s quarter-final between Inter Milan and Benfica, with the winner facing Pioli’s side in the semi-finals.
Inter boast a two-goal advantage heading into the second leg of the tie, boosting the likelihood of a Milan derby for a spot in the final.
Pioli says he would welcome a semi-final against his Milan rivals and that his team will do everything in their power to reach the final.
“It would look like that (a semi-final with Inter), as Inter won the first leg so well,” Pioli told Mediaset.
“These will be another two difficult, exciting and wonderful clashes in the Champions League. We’ve done a great deal and don’t want to stop now.”
Milan and Inter have faced each other three times already this season across all competitions, with the former winning just one. Inter, on the other hand, have beaten Milan two times this campaign including the 3-0 thrashing in the Italian Super Cup back in January.
