Daniel Levy insists it’s possible for Harry Kane to win a trophy at Tottenham

Harry Kane can still win trophies with Tottenham, according to chairman Daniel Levy, who also thinks that becoming a “legend” is vital for the English.

The England captain is reaching the final year of his contract at Spurs despite having scored 23 Premier League goals this season, second only to Manchester City’s high-flying Erling Haaland.

The 29-year-old attacker, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season is yet to win any laurels during his time with the North London club.

In past times, Kane has not shied away from stating his hunger to win silverware in his career at his boyhood club and with just a year left on his current deal, talks over a new contract are yet to begin.

“He (Kane) can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs, but being a legend is also important,” Levy said during a discussion at the Cambridge Union Society.

“The fact that he’s the top scorer for Tottenham Hotspur, he’s making history. I hope one day there is a statue of Harry Kane outside our stadium.”

Levy is known for his aversion to media appearances and has granted few interviews in his 22 years at Spurs since ENIC acquired the club.

During the occasion in Cambridge last month, Levy reflected on a number of subjects, including the club’s trophy drought, which has now lasted 15 years.

“It has been an incredible journey and in the 22 years, Tottenham has progressed enormously,” Levy said. “Not as much as a fan we would hope but hopefully the journey is not over and we are still hoping we will get that trophy that we need.

“When we first came into Tottenham, winning was making sure we stayed in the Premier League. Then as time goes on and we get more successful, it was about getting into the Europa League and then the Champions League.

“Obviously the ultimate goal is to win the trophies. That is clearly what we are trying to do. It’s easier said than done.”
