Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Antonio Rudiger will be in the starting lineup for Real Madrid when they travel to England for the second leg of their Champions League semifinal tie against Manchester City.

Rudiger was the subject of praise from fans and the Madrid manager following his performance in the game as he stayed glued to Erling Haaland throughout the game, keeping the Norwegian away from adding to his tally in the competition.

The German international was deputising from Eder Militao who was serving punishment following the accumulation of yellow cards in the previous round.

Despite his good game against the Cityzens, Rudiger was left out of the squad in the league game against Getafe as Madrid secured a 1-0 win.

Speaking after the win on Saturday, the Italian boss revealed the reason behind the German’s no-show while also confirming he is in line to keep his place in Wednesday’s fixture.

“He was tired, I have rested him so he will be fresh on Wednesday. Yes, he will play, I don’t know how many minutes, but he will play. And I also say that he will start the game,” Ancelotti said in words reported by AS.

The first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu when the two teams met ended 1-1 with Vinicius Jr and Kevin de Bruyne scoring for Madrid and City respectively.

The return leg at the Etihad Stadium is more open as a win for either side will see them seal a place in this year’s final.
