Inter vs AC Milan prediction, odds and preview

Inter Milan will look to complete the job against city rivals AC Milan when the teams meet again at San Siro on Tuesday, less than a week after their derby triumph in the first leg.

Following Inter’s two-goal advantage in the Champions League semi-final, the fifth and final Derby della Madonnina of the season will determine whether the Nerazzurri or Rossoneri side of Italy’s second city advances to next month’s final.

Inter put one foot in the Champions League final by battering their old foes during an explosive first-half display last Wednesday, when Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan turned back the clock to give the Nerazzurri the perfect start after a season brimming with Serie A failings.

Both former Roma players scored within 11 minutes of the game’s start, and the first Milan derby played in Europe’s top club competition in 18 years was always going Inter’s way after that: Simone Inzaghi’s side has now beaten their Rossoneri rivals three times this season, following wins in the league and the Supercoppa Italiana.

Milan have now lost their previous three games against Inter without scoring a single goal, despite having attempted 31 shots in total.

They have never gone four games without scoring against the Nerazzurri, and such a streak simply cannot continue if they are to salvage something from the teams’ semi-final encounter.

Only one team in Champions League history has lost the first leg of a semi-final by two or more goals and subsequently advanced – Liverpool’s stunning comeback against Barcelona in 2019 being the lone exception – but that is the job that awaits Stefano Pioli’s side.

After ousting Inter as the Italian champions the previous year, they recently had to cede the Scudetto to Champions League quarterfinal losers Napoli, and chances of a first European title since 2007 dangle by the thinnest of threads heading into another meeting of Calcio monarchs.
