Arsenal plan to raid Manchester City again targetting Gundogan and Cancelo

Ilkay Gundogan, the captain of Manchester City, is being pursued by Arsenal as he tries to decide on his future.

The German’s contract expires this summer, and he may be about to leave the Etihad Stadium for free. In the event that new terms cannot be reached, Spanish powerhouse Barcelona has been mentioned as a potential suitor for his services.

Granit Xhaka, a Swiss international, is one player who could leave the club soon, therefore the Gunners are looking to remodel their midfield during the forthcoming window. Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga wants to bring him home.

Gundogan is reportedly one of Arsenal’s potential successors should he depart. The Athletic claims that Mikel Arteta is at the center of the Gunners’ efforts to bring the former Borussia Dortmund star to the Emirates Stadium, indicating that they have a “concrete” interest in him.

He claimed in a speech last month that no decision had been made regarding his future. In the background, there are negotiations, according to Gundogan.

“That’s normal with just a couple of months left but without going too much into detail there is nothing decided yet from my side or the club’s side so the talks are continuing. If there’s a decision, you guys will be the first ones to know.”

Gundogan is not the only Man City player linked to a summer transfer to Arsenal. According to earlier rumours, the North London club is thinking about making a move for Joao Cancelo.

He was allowed to join Bayern Munich on loan in January, but his future under Pep Guardiola is unknown. The German behemoths don’t seem likely to pursue a long-term agreement.

If Arsenal were to pursue the pair, it would mark their second summer in a row making business with championship rivals Man City. Last summer, the Gunners conducted a double raid on the Etihad by purchasing Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko for a total of £75 million.
