Jose Mourinho still had time to hail his players following their Europa League final defeat on Wednesday night.

Mourinho lost a European final for the first time in his career, as Roma fell to a penalty shootout defeat to Sevilla.

Roma did take the lead through Paulo Dybala in the first half but a Gianluca Mancini own goal saw Sevilla draw level. As the game trudged into penalties, misses by Roger Ibanez and Gianluca Mancini saw Sevilla win their seventh Europa League title in history.

According to TMW, Mourinho gathered his players in a circle after the game and gave a message to the emotional players while standing in the centre of it.

“You played a great game, all of Europe saw you,” the Portuguese told them according to the media outlet.

Mourinho then choked back his tears as he led the squad to an ovation from Roma fans, as well as Sevilla fans, who responded in a noble gesture. Before the ceremony even began, Mourinho collected his runner-up medal and exited the arena for the locker room.

His future is uncertain, and the final may be the last time we watch him manage Roma from the stands.
