Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey says his decision to sign for the club after leaving Chelsea was not a ‘risk’.
The 22-year-old penned a long-term deal with Brighton in January 2020 after making just one Premier League appearance for the Blues under Frank Lampard.
Tariq made his only Premier League appearance in a 2-1 win over Chelsea in December 2019, replacing Fikayo Tomori in the game at the Emirates Stadium.
However limited opportunities with the first team meant the Ghanaian had to look for senior football minutes elsewhere with Brighton securing his signature.
“I think when you back yourself and you have the foundations that are behind me, they always believe in me and I trust God. With that, I don’t think I really think of anything as risk,” he told Joy Sports when asked about his decision to join the Seagulls.
“It is something that you worked hard for and you believe in yourself and you are ready to take the next step. I was playing week in and week out in senior football. With anything that you do, you have to have trust and belief.”
Tariq is hoping to be fit for Brighton’s pre-season tour in America after ending the season with an injury.
