Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne says winning the treble will not be enough to change critics’ perspective about the Premier League champions.

The Cityzens won the Premier League for the fifth time in six years this season while also beating Manchester United to the FA Cup earlier this month and face Inter Milan in the final of the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s boys are on a chase for the treble which could see them become the second English side to do it since the Red Devils in 1999.

However, De Bruynr believes even that will not be enough to convince people not to find fault with the club.

“If we win it on Saturday, then some people will say why didn’t we win against Southampton in the League Cup and then get the Quadruple? That’s the way it goes. We try to win every game possible. Sometimes you’re not good enough and another team is better than you and you have to accept it,” said the Belgian midfielder.

“It helps, but I’m in the very good position that I don’t really have to discuss this. I’m happy with the way that I am. Obviously, I know it will help whatever people say about me and the team. But it doesn’t put me in bad or good places. I maintain the way that I am. If you’re happy with yourself, then some things will be okay, De Bruyne added when asked about Manchester City finally getting recognition.

City beating Real Madrid to book a place in the Champions League final while Inter saw off the challenge of AC Milan.
