Ghana head coach Chris Hughton has reiterated that his team has no option but to beat Central Africa in the final game of the AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars needed a win against Madagascar to book a ticket for the continental showpiece next year but were held to a goalless draw.

The draw means that defeat could see Ghana fail to qualify for the biennial tournament for the first time in 20 years.

Nonetheless, Hughton believes his team knows what is at stake and will go for the win.

“Our strategy for the next match is to win. We are playing at home. We know we have to get the result and obviously, it’s a game we know the consequences if we don’t win. From here, we have a break,” the 64-year-old coach told the media.

Ghana missed the services of Inaki Williams, Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, Tariq Lamptey, and Gideon Mensah through injury and Hughton hopes they’ll be fit by September.

“The players will have to go back to their clubs and they will start preseason and we will be ready for the game in September. We have some players missing today so hopefully, those players will be available in September. We will go into another difficult game against Central African Republic and have to win.”

Ghana will host Central Africa on September 4 before facing the USA in a friendly game.
