Ibrahim Tanko says the Black Meteors failed to match up with Morocco because they gave them too much ‘respect’ during the game.

Ghana received a hammering on Tuesday night in their second group game at the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations with Salim Adams scoring a consolation goal.

A dreadful start in both halves of the game saw Tanko’s side end up with a 1-5 defeat against the host nation as they dropped to third in Group A.

Addressing the media after the game, the gaffer said: “I think we gave them a lot of respect.”

“We had a day rest and they had two [days]. You could see from the game between Congo and Guinea how the scoreline was because Congo also had one day [of] rest.”

He also added that despite the defeat doing a lot of damage, there is still an opportunity for the team to advance to the next stage of the competition.

“We still have a chance in this tournament, we have a last game so we are going to prepare for that,” he continued.

“We now have two days to rest so we are going to make use of it and try to win our next match.”

Ghana will come up against Guinea in their final Group A game knowing only a win will see them progress to the semifinal.
