Casemiro is currently the best defensive midfielder – Gilberto Silva

Former Brazil international Gilberto Silva has named Casemiro as the best-performing defensive midfielder in football currently.

Known for his role in Arsenal’s Invincible side, Silva was a master of his own as a defensive midfielder and specialised at it.

According to the former Premier League winner, he believes his countryman stands out amongst the several players in his position.

Casemiro made a huge difference when he joined Manchester United last summer and played a vital role in Erik ten Hag’s side securing Champions League football for next season.

“I think Casemiro, he came to Manchester United and he’s doing great, he’s still sharp and he knows how to handle that position, he plays hard and doesn’t give an easy time for the opponent,” he told Daly Star.

“He’s smart, he’s always in the right positions, at the right moment and he makes it look simple.”

The World Cup winner also revealed he feels excited seeing more Brazilians take the step to play in the English Premier League.

“It’s a continuation of me, Edu, and Sylvinho have done in the past and they have done well this year, it seems there are much more Brazilians now than when I was playing,” he added.

“I’ve been at the Arsenal training ground a couple of times and people love them and they’re really enjoying the atmosphere and they’re happy and love the club.”
