Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, claimed that the club’s academy has “exceptional” talent after his team defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 in Tokyo.
20-year-old midfielder James McAtee’s first goal came in the first half after Rico Lewis, an 18-year-old, had contributed well.
In the 81st minute, Mathys Tel restored Bayern’s advantage before Aymeric Laporte gave City the lead back five minutes later.
“It’s unbelievable – the guys who are in charge and the recruitment,” Guardiola told the club’s website.
“The new generation is coming and they told me it is really good. There are three or four players that are exceptional.”
In front of yet another sold-out crowd, City earned their second preseason victory at Japan’s National Stadium after the Treble champions defeated Yokohama F Marinos 5-3 over the weekend.
Up next for Guardiola’s men is a challenge against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid on July 30.
