Pep Guardiola expects Manchester City to complete the signing of defender Josko Gvardiol within the next “hours or days.”

Gvardiol was having a physical with City on Friday afternoon ahead of his projected move from RB Leipzig.

The treble winners are expected to settle a fee of 90 million euros (£77.6 million) with Leipzig for the Croatia international.

Guardiola said in a pre-match press conference before Sunday’s Community Shield match against Arsenal at Wembley: “Regarding Gvardiol – what a beautiful surname he has – he’s doing a medical test.”

“Everybody knows he’s here, and hopefully we can finish the deal in the next hours, the next days.”

Asked what the signing of the World Cup bronze medalist will mean for his central defensive unit, the Spaniard added: “The season is so long, there is many, many games. (It is) absolutely not (too many).”

He also failed to admit if the Cityzens will be in the market once again before the closure.

“I don’t know. I think it is going to move, something. Not yet,” he noted.

City have already signed Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea this summer, with fellow midfielder Ilkay Gundogan departing for Barcelona following the expiration of his contract and forward Riyad Mahrez joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.
