Erik ten Hag says it will be difficult for new signing Rasmus Hojlund to feature in Manchester United’s opening Premier League game.
The Red Devils will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their first game of the season on Monday, August 14, at Old Trafford.
The Denmark international was officially unveiled over the weekend before the club’s friendly game against RC Lens at the Theatre of Dreams after signing from Atalanta.
However, the forward is not expected to feature in the opening game due to fitness issues.
“It’s difficult to say how that process will go, but I think he’s making good progress. We have to see day by day how the process will go. Then we have to follow up,” he said in an interview with Football Daily.
“No, of course, he’s available and you have an option to play [him] but we don’t expect him in that short notice to be 100% fit. So we have to wait sometime more.”
The youngster scored nine goals in the Italian top flight during the 2022/23 season and is expected to play a big part in United’s season as they seek to challenge for the Premier League title after finishing in the top four last season.
