Ivan Rakitic says it’s a ‘shame’ Sevilla missed out on yet another UEFA Super Cup following their defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Sevilla almost missed out on capturing their second European Super Cup. They held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, but Nemanja Gudelj’s missed penalty ensured that the Champions League champions were victorious.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team put together a strong performance. They fought valiantly, led by captain Ivan Rakitic, and will believe they should have won in normal time.
Speaking after the game via MD, Rakitic expressed his disappointment at losing.
“It is a shame. We wanted this trophy more than them, but we have to congratulate Manchester City. We must tell our fans that we will continue fighting to have another opportunity like this.
“It is no coincidence that City has won everything it has won, and what it will win. For them, this is normal. If we had won, we would have burned the stadium down.”
Sevilla will be looking to bounce back from the defeat when they Alaves in the next game in the Spanish LaLiga.
