After an encouraging performance against Liverpool in the opening weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Chelsea will be on the road on Sunday against West Ham United.

The Blues played out a pulsating 1-1 draw with the Reds at Stamford Bridge last weekend in a game they would feel they deserved the maximum points.

Axel Disasi scored his debut for Mauricio Pochettino’s side while Liverpool had taken the lead through Luiz Diaz.

The Europa Conference League winners took the lead in the 51st minute with Jarrod Bowen, but Bournemouth equalised eight minutes from time through Dominic Solanke, as West Ham escaped with a point despite having only 37% of the ball at the Vitality Stadium.

Moyes bemoaned Bournemouth’s “completely unlucky” equaliser as the ball dropped nicely for Solanke to tap in, but the West Ham manager confessed that his team invited pressure in the second half, and similar tactics might be lethal against Pochettino’s new-look Chelsea.

Pochettino has yet to lose a match since taking over at Chelsea, and his next goal is to reverse a disturbing trend that has seen the Blues win just one of their past 13 top-flight matches, and none of their previous five.

1-1 was the scoreline when West Ham and Chelsea met at the London Stadium in February, after the visitors had beaten the Irons twice in a row at Stamford Bridge, and there is now a fresh 19-year-old midfielder ready to make his name in blue.
