Brazil international Neymar Jr. has revealed he had a horrible time at Paris Saint-Germain last season together with Lionel Messi.

The two players were part of a number of exits at the French club this summer with Messi moving to America to sign for Inter Miami while Neymar penned a deal with Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal in a €90 million transfer.

Neymar told Globo’s Esporte Espetacular in a June interview that aired on Sunday how he felt about seeing his good friend Messi lift the World Cup with Argentina in 2022: “I was very happy for the year he had, but at the same time very sad because he lived both sides of the coin. He went to heaven with the Argentina team, won everything in recent years, and with Paris he lived hell, we lived through hell, both he and I.”

Messi and Neymar, who previously played together at Barcelona, won league titles at PSG but failed to bring the club Champions League glory.

Messi struggled to adjust to Paris and revealed in June that he had a “fracture with a significant group of PSG fans” during his two seasons there.

PSG fans booed and jeered both players after the team exited the Champions League the previous two years.

Messi, who scored 21 goals and assisted 20 more in all competitions last season, was also singled out by a portion of the fans in his farewell home game for PSG.

Neymar believes the criticism heaped on him and Messi was unjustified.

“We get upset because we’re not there for nothing, we’re there to do our best, [to] be champions, try to make history,” said Neymar.

“That’s why we started playing together again, we came together there so we could make history. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it.”
