Liverpool vs Leicester City prediction, odds and preview

Once upon a time, this was a Premier League fixture but Liverpool will welcome Championship side Leicester City to Anfield on Wednesday.

The two teams meet in the third round of the EFL Cup with a place in the next round up for grabs.

Liverpool are looking to continue their winning streak across all competitions when they face the Foxes at home while Leicester are also chasing another win to their name.

The Reds are taking to the cup competition for the first time this season with Leicester their target. The Foxes defeated Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers – winning 2-0 on both occasions – en route to reaching this round.

Liverpool extended their winning streak in all events to six games, scoring at least two goals in each of those games, while their unbeaten record in competitive fixtures stands at 18 games since a 4-1 defeat at the Etihad in early April.

The nine-time EFL Cup winners – who have won the trophy more than any other team in history – have also won each of their past four third-round fixtures in the competition.

Leicester’s final Premier League home game in the 2022-23 season was a 3-0 loss to Liverpool, which occurred an unlucky 13 days before the Foxes were formally relegated from the top flight.

However, with Enzo Maresca on the sidelines, Leicester have already established themselves at the head of the promotion-chasing group, claiming 21 points from the 24 available in the 2023-24 Championship thus far to secure their top spot.

Leicester are looking to avoid just their second EFL Cup third-round exit in the last seven seasons, although their attempts at glory in 2021-22 were dashed in the quarter-finals by a penalty shootout loss to Liverpool.
