Former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham says there have been no talks for him to become an ambassador of the club should Sheikh Jassim takeover.

There have been reports the club’s legend will be given an ambassadorial role at Old Trafford if the Qataris win the race to buy the club.

Beckham played a similar role for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, for which he was heavily chastised.

He is one of the United icons targeted by Sheikh Jassim if his bid for the Premier League giants is accepted.

However, the former England captain has now spoken out about the links and the possible takeover of the club where he played nearly 12 years.

“At the moment, there’s no stability,” he told American broadcaster CNBC, before adding: “It’s the right time for somebody to take over.”

Quizzed about the possibility of being an ambassador in the Qatari deal, Beckham said: “At the moment there’s been no discussion.

“I have had a long-standing relationship with Qatar because of my involvement with Paris Saint-Germain when I played there and won the championship.

“So obviously there’s going to be some connection there and people talking about my involvement in Manchester because you put the two together, myself, United, plus PSG and there’s a connection.

“So, people will obviously be talking about that but there’s been no discussion at the moment.”

Sheikh Jassim has been heavily linked with the possibility of buying the Premier League side since the start of last season.
