Ten Hag defends ‘fighter’ Antony after another poor performance

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has jumped to the defence of forward Antony following the forward’s performance in the defeat to Newcastle United.

The Brazil international played the entire duration of the EFL Cup game as United suffered a humiliating defeat to the Magpies at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils conceded three goals in back-to-back games and exited the competition they won last season beating Newcastle in the final.

While suffering backlash from the United fans, Ten Hag stepped in to defend the player he signed from Ajax upon his arrival at Old Trafford.

“I’m a fighter and Antony is also a fighter, he has the confidence,” the Dutchman said.

“He is brave and I am confident he will bring the performance that he is the right player for us.”
