Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists his side must up their game following their 3-0 defeat at the London Stadium to West Ham United.

The defeat to Arsenal saw the Hammers advance to the next round of EFL Cup at the expense of Arteta’s men who now exit the competition.

The Gunners went behind after just 15 minutes played after Ben White had scored an own goal before Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen extended the lead for David Moyes’ side.

Speaking after the game, Arteta expressed concern about his side’s performance while admitting there were far off their best.

“Really disappointing and I am responsible for that, no excuse because we weren’t good enough,” he said.

“I tried to warn them for 48 hours on how important it was going to be and how we had to compete first of all in this game before earning the right to play and we didn’t do that.

“You can discuss what happens in the first goal and the impact but overall we were no where near the level that we have to show.”

Arsenal take on Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend and Arteta insists that the pain from this defeat will be crucial to the team’s response in order to get the needed result as the 2023/2024 season progresses.
