Wayne Rooney says Manchester United players ‘can do more’ after Ten Hag criticism

Former Manchester United captain has quizzed the performance of the club’s players in the wake of their disappointing performances so far this season.

Rooney believes while Erik ten Hag may be under huge scrutiny, the players have also got a part to play to ensure they get to the expected standards.

United have conceded six goals in their previous two games after losing in the Manchester Derby last weekend and suffering elimination from the EFL Cup to Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

The Birmingham City boss said in an interview with the media: “The players need to take a lot of responsibility as well. I know a lot of players in there and they are not performing at the level I know they can but of course, it starts and ends with the manager and that’s part of being the manager and he will get the critics after the last few weeks but the players can do a lot more.”

The Red Devils take on Fulham this weekend in the Premier League as Ten Hag’s men look to bounce back to winning ways after suffering 8 defeats in 15 matches this season.
