Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez says the team’s ultimate goal is to qualify for the next stage of the UEFA Champions League this season.
Barcelona have dropped to the Europa League successively in the last two seasons.
Xavi’s men have a 100% win record in the UCL group stage this season and take on shakhtar Donetsk in their fourth group game away from home with an opportunity to book a slot in the last 16.
Speaking to the press ahead of the game, Xavi expressed the team’s desire and determination to grab all three points on the day.
“It’s very important to get the points and qualify for the next round,” he said.
“This is our primary objective and tomorrow we have a fantastic opportunity that we can’t miss.”
Recent performances have seen the Catalans lack rhythm and dominance in games and Xavi believes that aspect needs a change in a positive trajectory.
“We know we have to improve and try to assert our style of play. It’s essential to win matches,” he added.
