England midfielder Declan Rice has cautioned his national teammates to be at their best if they are to make the Three Lions squad for next summer’s European Championships.

Called on International duty by Gareth Southgate, Rice came off the bench and played a part in England’s 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley last Monday.

Southgate’s men lacked control and dominance in the game yet managed to see out the visitors after an own goal and a 62nd-minute strike from Harry Kane set the tone for victory.

Ahead of their final qualifier, the Arsenal man has thrown a challenge to his colleagues insisting there is nothing guaranteed for anyone.

“You know you need to be at your best; You know nothing is guaranteed,” he said during a presser.

“Going into a major tournament, you need to be fit, ready and well-prepared. For the World Cup, it was 26 players but for the Euros, it will be 23 and you know you need to be at your best to get picked for that.”

Rice is expected to start on Monday when England take on North Macedonia away from home.
