Real Madrid could be without Vinicius Jr. until next year after the player suffered an injury while on an international break.

The winger came off in the 26th minute of Brazil’s 2-1 defeat in the 2026 World Cup South American qualifiers over the weekend.

Vinicius had a strong start to the game setting up Gabriel Martinelli for the game’s opener to give Brazil the lead.

However, the player could not travel beyond the 26th minute as he was substituted after picking up an injury.

Brazil would fall apart after the substitution of the Madrid star, eventually losing the game thanks to a second-half brace from Luis Diaz.

Speaking after the game, Vinicius said: “I think it’s the same injury as the last time. I took a hit there and it hurt a little after. [On Friday] we will do tests to see how I go.”

Following his departure from Brazil’s camp, Madrid released a statement confirming the forward’s injury which is more severe than what he suffered at the beginning of the season.

“After the tests carried out today [Saturday, November 18] on our player Vinicius Jr by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a tear in the femoral biceps with involvement of the distal tendon in his left leg,” the official statement read.

Vinicius joins Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Guler and Dani Ceballos who are all on the treatment table.

The Brazilian is also expected to miss close to 14 games.
