Napoli will look to begin life under Walter Mazzari right when they face Atalanta on Saturday in the Serie A.

The visitors sit in fourth place on the Serie A standings, only a point above hosts Atalanta who have 20 points in 12 matches played so far this campaign.

Napoli’s title defence has so far lacked the conviction of last season as they lie 10 points behind leaders Inter Milan and the last time the champions were so far behind in Serie A after 12 matches was in 1994.

It may profit the Scudetto-holders to play their first game under new manager Mazzarri away from the pressure in Naples, as they have picked up only seven points so far this season at the Maradona stadium.

For Atlanta, Ederson’s late leveller in Udine prevented Gian Piero Gasperini’s men from going home empty-handed prior to the international break despite a woeful display with only two shots on target.

Atalanta have been far from impressive this campaign but the Serie A restart could very well be a chance to turn their fortunes around at home in Lombardy.

Napoli have won each of their last three league matches against Atalanta ahead of this week’s meeting, where they will attempt to register four straight top-flight wins over La Dea for the very first time.

Atalanta, however, have conceded the least goals in home fixtures this season and will fancy their chances of frustrating Napoli this weekend as they eye a win against the champions for the first time since 2021.

Kickoff is scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
