Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has challenged Aaron Ramsdale to prove that playing David Raya ahead of him is ‘wrong.’
The England goalkeeper is set to start his first Premier League since September 3 when Arsenal face Brentford over the weekend.
Ramsdale’s Premier League minute has been limited since the arrival of Raya but the latter is ineligible to face his parent club hence the decision to start Ramsdale.
Speaking at his press conference before the game, Arteta said he understands Ramsdale’s situation but the player would need to prove him wrong.
“Aaron Ramsdale is one of many players who is playing less than he wants. There are many unfortunately in a dressing room of 24 players,” he said.
“The behaviour we always demand is to challenge and to make each other better — just show me that I’m wrong.”
Ramsdale’s last appearance for Arsenal across competitions came during the EFL Cup defeat to West Ham United.
