Newcastle United and Chelsea battle it out at St James’ Park in a quest to climb higher in the Premier League standings on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues find themselves in 10th place in the Premier League standings while the Magpies sit in 7th place with 20 points from 12 matches played.

A brace from Dominik Solanke ended Newcastle’s seven-game unbeaten run prior to the international break as Eddie Howe’s men had over 10 players unavailable a fortnight ago.

Chelsea, however, headed into the break with confidence after claiming four valuable points in back-to-back fixtures against former Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur and current league leaders Manchester City.

After edging past nine-man Spurs in a 4-1 encounter in North London, the Blues shared the spoils with Man City following an enthralling 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge, with former City man Cole Palmer grabbing the headlines after cooly netting a 95th-minute penalty to salvage a point.

Newcastle will be confident of grabbing all points at St James’ Park knowing they are undefeated in their last four home matches in the league but a buoyant Chelsea run of form could turn their home record in the wrong direction.

The Blues have the upper hand in their last five matches against Newcastle with two wins, two draws and only one defeat and Mauricio Pochettino will look to extend Chelsea’s dominance over the hosts on Saturday.
