Manchester City host RB Leipzig in their fifth Champions League group game at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

Although both sides have already booked a place into the knockout round of the competition, the first-place position will be in for contention as the hosts sit three points clear of Leipzig in Group G.

City have been far from perfect after successive draws with Chelsea and Liverpool on the domestic front with Pep Guardiola’s men sitting in second in the standings, only one point behind leaders Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Leipzig approach this match off the back of a 2-1 defeat on Saturday to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, with the result leaving them out of the top four places.

The visitors need a win to stand a chance of finishing first in Group G but face City, who are without a home defeat in the Champions League since August 2020 and Marco Rose’s men will have to pull up an outstanding performance to seal the win.

Man City beat Leipzig 3-1 in Germany back in October, and Guardiola’s team has been without defeat in the Champions League since the famous 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final during the 2021-22 campaign.

A win or draw at the Etihad Stadium would be enough to secure first place in Group G for the hosts ahead of their crunch clash with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The big misses for Leipzig will be Timo Werner, Dani Olmo and Willie Orban. Meanwhile, the Premier League side have been boosted by the return of Jack Grealish although Kevin De Bruyne is out through injury.

City look favourites and will hope to return to winning ways after their one-all stalemate with Liverpool over the weekend in the Premier League

The match comes off at 20:00 GMT.
