Barcelona have confirmed defender Inigo Martinez has been sidelined with a hamstring injury until January next year.
The 32-year-old joined Barcelona this summer and has proven to be a valuable asset for Xavi Hernandez but constant injuries have impeded his progression.
After Barcelona’s victory over Atletico Madrid on Sunday night, Spanish reports indicated the player had suffered another injury blow this season.
The club’s official statement confirmed the injury on social media stating: “Tests carried out have revealed that Íñigo Martínez has a right hamstring injury. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability”.
Suffering a third injury in 2023 will see Martinez miss the remainder of Barcelona’s matches for the rest of the year.
Xavi’s side are however confident players such as Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo and Joules Kunde will step up in his absence.
